The Park Hyatt New York combines elegance, tasteful design with surprisingly expansive suites.

Location

Two blocks from Central Park, three from Columbus Circle, and across from Carnegie Hall, the Park Hyatt New York is where guests want to be in Manhattan. Residing on 57th Street and just off 7th Ave, the hotel is close to attractions while still serving as a central location for business meetings.

Property

The street-level entrance welcomes guests with service and bell staff before whisking them upstairs to reception. The same level offers the hotel’s restaurant and bar, The Living Room modeled after a chic Manhattan apartment.

Many New York hotels do not offer a pool, but the Park Hyatt is unique in this fashion. With 20′ ceilings, big windows to let in plenty of natural sunlight from above the tops of nearby skyscrapers, the pool is a certain draw. In addition to loungers, a sauna, and hot tub help guests unwind.

Suite

As a World of Hyatt Globalist member, I was upgraded to a one bedroom suite. Upon entering, a guest bathroom is available for visitors to the right before opening up to a large living room. It’s worth noting that this suite retails for about $1600/night or twice the standard rate, so suffice it to say, the upgrade was a meaningful value for myself and my family.

As the room opens, a mini-bar and Nespresso coffee maker are to the left. A coffee table with chairs and a couch complete the left side of the room, opposite the TV and partition.

At the far wall is a desk overlooking the buildings of New York City with Central Park in the background. A novelist looking for inspiration might find the desk to be the quintessential writing tool with views, space, and a sturdy Mid-Century Modern desk.

Bedroom

Accessible through pocket doors on either side (near the desk or closer to the door) the bedroom feels like a guestroom at a well-to-do friend’s apartment in the City. High thread count sheets give the feel of luxury and wonderful rest. Bedside tables offer soft light following turn down service. A tan leather chair at the window is perfect for reading a book or waiting for a significant other to get ready… for as long as it takes.

Bathroom

Park Hyatts, like other extreme luxury brands, have adopted a bathroom design layout and apply it across the chain. In the shape of a square, the dual vanity is to the right, the soaking tub to the left. At the far wall, two shaded glass doors, one opening to the water closet, and the other to the large shower. This design allows for privacy for families and couples without excluding someone entirely from using the facilities.

The privacy of the water closet is its second-best feature, the first is the bidet toilet seat, operated by a control center mounted on the wall.

A rain shower head and wand are available in the shower along with a lit shaving mirror and Le Labo premium toiletries. These insanely expensive premium soaps, shampoos and conditioners have an addictive quality to them. I recommend taking some home from the hotel (Bergamote 23, selected for this property) though they are available for purchase at their lab a few blocks away for $120-240 for a standard sized shampoo bottle.

Between the bathroom and the bedroom is a flow-through closet with his/her dressers. The closet can be closed on either side through pocket doors for maximum privacy.

World of Hyatt Service and Benefits

As a World of Hyatt Globalist, I enjoyed complimentary breakfast, late checkout, bonus points, and an upgrade to a suite.

As with most Park Hyatt properties, there is no executive lounge so breakfast is offered in The Living Room or by room service if so desired. A Globalist with included breakfast can see just how much their status is worth at the Park Hyatt New York. In our party of two, we each had an entree, coffee, and fresh-squeezed orange juice, and shared a side of bacon. Our total cost for breakfast should have been $116.91 though ultimately paid nothing as it is a benefit of Globalist status.

Between the upgrade to a one-bedroom suite and breakfast (not counting extra points earned for status, welcome amenities, and late checkout) I received more than $1,000 in benefits for being a Globalist at this property.

Value

The Park Hyatt New York City offers exceptional luxury for reasonable prices. This is certainly one of the nicest Park Hyatts in the world. Average costs range between $850-1,000/nt. The cash price for this hotel extremely expensive.

For World of Hyatt members, the property is a Category 7. Award nights cost 30,000/nt for a standard room. This provides a value of 2.8¢ to 3.3¢/point, well above Suites and Lobbies valuation of 2¢/point. World of Hyatt members should utilize their points to offset the cost of their stay. Globalists would also garner significant value when redeeming their Category 1-7 certificates for their stay.

What do you think? Have you stayed at the Park Hyatt New York City? How was your experience?
