Maui’s hotel landscape just added a new chapter with the opening of the Hampton Inn & Suites Maui North Shore in Kahului. As of May 1, this 136-key, Hilton-branded property is officially welcoming guests. Located at 130 W. Kaʻahumanu Avenue, just minutes from the airport, it’s geared toward convenience—but its presence raises some interesting questions.

I’ve lived in both Waiehu and Kahului and spent plenty of time zigzagging around Maui, so I know this area well. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure Kahului needed another hotel. It’s not exactly the first place visitors think of when dreaming about a Maui vacation. But with that said, this isn’t just another airport motel. It’s a noticeable upgrade, and for travelers seeking a practical, well-located base with Hilton perks, it’ll likely be well received.

Blending Comfort with Culture

What sets this property apart is how it embraces Maui’s culture. Built on the site of the old Maui Palms Hotel, the new Hampton Inn includes thoughtful touches like an Oshibori welcome towel, daily lei-making classes, and a conch shell pū ceremony to close the day. Inside, local artist Alexandra Underwood’s mural celebrates the natural beauty of Wailuku and its native flora.

Rooms and Amenities

Each guest room comes with views of either Haleakalā or Kahului Bay. You’ll find the usual comforts—mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, in-room safe, and more. The hotel includes a pool facing the bay, a well-equipped fitness center, and a shuttle to and from the airport. They’ve also included beach-friendly gear like chairs, towels, and umbrellas, which is a nice touch for those venturing out to Maui’s more traditional beach zones.

Dining on the Horizon

Later this summer, the on-site restaurant The Palms Bar & Bites will open, offering a laid-back menu of island-style fare and drinks. It’s named in homage to the Maui Palms Hotel that previously occupied this spot.

Room Rates and Local Perks

Rooms start at $259 a night. Kamaʻāina can take advantage of a 25% discount, making it a potential option for neighbor island trips or quick staycations.

Using Kahului as a Launch Pad

While Kahului isn’t a resort area, it is a strategic spot for exploring. If you’re planning your itinerary, I’ve put together a solid roundup of things to do on Maui that covers all sides of the island. And if you’re visiting in winter, you won’t want to miss my breakdown of the best time for whale watching in Maui.

Booking and More Info

If you’re curious or planning a trip soon, you can check out the hotel’s official page here.

Let me know if you want this turned into a video script or need help outlining a companion social post.

Aloha, and welcome. Your journey around the web has brought you here, and I’m grateful for the chance to share a bit about Hawaiʻi with you. I do my best to provide thoughtful insights on hotels, airlines, dining, and the ever-evolving travel scene in Hawaiʻi. My role? I’m the one steering the ship—quietly behind the scenes—making sure every piece of information you find here is worth your time. I grew up in Kaʻalaea on Oʻahu, surrounded by the beauty and complexity of Hawaiʻi, which shaped how I see the world and connect with it. As a native Hawaiian and someone who works in below-wing operations for Hawaiian Airlines, I’ve always been drawn to understanding the details—whether it’s about travel, culture, or the people who make it all happen. I travel extensively across the islands, seeking out what’s new, what’s changing, and what’s truly worth sharing. From the latest hotel openings to restaurant reviews and updates on travel trends, I aim to bring you accurate, first-hand insights you can trust. For a closer look, you can also find me on YouTube, where I dive deeper with visual reviews and updates. My hope is that this space helps you connect with Hawaiʻi in a meaningful way, whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth.
