The Royal Hawaiian, A Luxury Collection Hotel

I have personally stayed at this hotel, see my detailed review here and my walk-through video here.

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel front facade, one of the best luxury hotels on Oahu

If you’re looking for pure luxury, look no further than the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, a luxury collection resort under the Marriott Brand. Imagine glowing orange sunsets cascading over the water, a drink in hand, and soothing ukulele music playing in the distance, all while you sit from the balcony of your hotel room.

Located on the idyllic Waikiki Beach, this historic Honolulu hotel is like visiting Heaven on Earth. My favorite thing about this hotel is the way the gardens buffer you from the hustle and bustle in Waikiki and yet you are steps away from all the action.

Built in 1927, the Royal Hawaiian Hotel was one of the first to bring in a new era of luxury resorts on Oahu. Its soft pink exterior walls are a warm symbol of splendor. Guests enjoy beachfront access, two pools, 24-hour room service, a garden spa, free internet access, a luau show, surfing lessons, and a floral lei-making class. With so much to do, this luxury resort has something for the whole family!

The Kahala Hotel & Resort

I have personally stayed here, see my detailed review and video review for specific details on this amazing property.

Kahala Hotel and Resort, one of the best luxury hotels on Oahu

Visiting the Kahala is like stepping into a timeless oasis of luxuriousness. They pride themselves on being the hotel of choice for several famous visitors–and for good reason! The Kahala offers exclusive vacation packages with full scenic views of the ocean and a dolphin lagoon. Their famed restaurant Hoku’s at the Kahala has even been prized as the Ilima Awards Critic’s Choice for Honolulu’s best restaurant.

I really like the location of this hotel, minutes from Waikiki and downtown Honolulu and yet secluded in the quiet Kahala neighborhood. If you come to O’ahu for the Sony Open, book this luxury hotel early. Hate paying a resort fee? No resort fee at the Kahala.

The Kahala Hotel opened its doors in 1964, near the famous Waialae Country Club private golf course. Over the decades, the Kahala has been a popular destination for legendary artists, musicians, actors, athletes, royalty, and heads of state. More recently, the Kahala joined in the ranking of the Leading Hotels of the World and has maintained its position among celebrities and islanders alike.

Halekulani Hotel (My Top Pick For Best Luxury Hotel On Oahu in Waikiki)

I have personally stayed at this hotel and have a detailed review here.

7 Best Luxury Hotels on Oahu (2024)

Whether you’re planning for a honeymoon, a well-deserved reprieve, or a remote work getaway, the Halekulani is another phenomenal luxury resort. Located on the beachfront of Waikiki, the Halekulani faces the mountain peak of Diamond Head, offering unobstructed views of one of Oahu’s most appealing landmarks. Around the grounds, you’ll also notice dozens of incredible creative floral designs curated by the hotel florist.

Not only is the Halekulani one of the best luxury hotels on Oahu it is home to some of the best dining as well. La Mer made my list of the best restaurants in Hawai’i and will probably never be knocked off. The hotel is also stocked with bakery delights from the Halekulani Bakery that is next door at the sister property, the Halepuna Waikiki.

Above all, the Halekulani is known for its excellent hospitality standards, meaning you can expect to be pampered from the point of arrival until your departure. Guests are treated with the utmost attentiveness and sincerity by the highly polished and experienced staff. With a wide range of activities on the beach, lounging by the poolside, exercising at the fitness center, or meeting with colleagues at the business center, Halekulani’s staff is well-equipped to serve your every need.

Four Season Ko Olina

Aerial View of Koolina where the Four Seasons is located.
Ko Olina aerial view of the Four Seasons Ko Olina

Four Seasons Ko Olina comes from a brand that is trusted and recognized the world over. This beachfront hotel sits on Oahu’s rugged western coast, bringing the island’s natural environment together with a perfect balance of tranquility and elegance. With plenty of opportunities for fun and relaxation, the Ko Olina area is a hotspot for guests seeking their luxury Oahu vacation.

One of the things that you expect at a luxury hotel is the attention to detail. During my stay here when I was out and about, the staff came in to take care of the cleaning. When I returned my phone cords were neatly wrapped with a Four Season branded tie, my wine glasses were covered with paper shells, and my reading glasses were polished with the cloth left for me to take. Exceptional.

If lounging on private lanais (balconies) with an almost private beach is at the top of your list I encourage you to consider this location. If you are more into swimming pools then the adults only infinity pool will be an absolute delight.

Spend the day lounging on white-sand beaches, or unleash your spirit by rowing an outrigger canoe through turquoise waters. Play a round of golf at the private Ko Olina Golf Club, or find your inner peace at Naupaka Spa & Wellness Centre. At the end of the day, watch the sunset over the Pacific, enjoying one of the most coveted views on all of Oahu. The Four Seasons also offers five unique food and beverage venues, featuring fresh, sustainable, and delectable cuisine.

The Ritz-Carlton Residences Waikiki

I have personally stayed at this hotel, without a doubt one of the best luxury hotels on Oahu, you can read my full review here. and see my walk thru video here.

Ritz-Carlton Waikiki, one of the best luxury hotels on Oahu

As one of Waikiki’s newest resorts, the Ritz Carlton certainly does not disappoint. With an eighth-floor infinity pool, luxury studios and suites, and world-class restaurants, your sense of well-being and comfort is sure to reach new heights. This choice hotel is not only one of the best in all of Oahu, but they also offer discounted rates for extended stays, meaning you can fully soak in the experience with all the time in the world.

Of all the luxury hotels I have stayed at on O’ahu the Ritz Carlton Waikiki had the most modern amenities in the room. I think because this is also a residence location it really made the room memorable and luxurious.

Everything about the Ritz Carlton of Waikiki reveals its opulence. Picture lush greenery, fragrant floral decorations, cerulean skies, and five-star vacation rental-style amenities. Nothing falls short of sheer stunning beauty. Especially for foodies, your pallet will be taken to new heights by the unbelievable flavors offered from Sushi Sho, Dean & Deluca, La Vie, and Quiora. If you’re interested in booking a stay at Oahu’s most luxurious of all its luxury hotels, the Ritz Carlton Residences at Waikiki is exactly what you’re looking for.

Turtle Bay Resort, located on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, stands out as a unique luxury hotel due to its stunning location and exceptional amenities. Spanning across 850 acres, it offers unparalleled access to five miles of pristine beaches and breathtaking ocean views, making it a true paradise for those seeking both relaxation and adventure.

Clearly the best part of my work is staying at these amazing luxury hotels on O’ahu and reviewing them for you. I have stayed at several on Maui and the Big Island as well giving me a unique perspective on what is available in Hawai’i. One other hotel that is worth mentioning but I just don’t think is a luxury hotel is the Moana Surfrider, the first lady of Waikiki. I did a full review and video of the Moana and can attest first hand to its beauty and charm.

If you have stayed at any of these hotels please share your experience in the comments so others can choose the best one for their enjoyment.

  1. We’ve stayed at the Waikiki Ritz Carlton twice. The hotel is immaculate and the staff fantastic!
    I love having a kitchen and washer/dryer.
The only 2 issues I have was from our recent visit January 2022.
We were not able to get seats by the pool. However, a staff member made us up a place to sit on the benches. I must admit it was rather nice and roomy.
The other issue was also by the police. Several tiles were missing in and around the pool. We were told they were working on it. It made the pool look sad.
But all in all we love the hotel, the size, amenities and the location. We are already booked for another stay.
    I do have a question…
Have you or any of your followers stay at the Trump International in Waikiki? If so, some input would be helpful.
    And one final question…
Is the over $900 a night pricetag for a basic room at the Four Seasons on Oahu worth it??
    Thx!

    • Hi Ronnie, Thanks for your comments on the Ritz-Carlton Waikiki. I was also impressed with the service from all staff interactions I had. I have found it tricky to explain how wonderful it was to stay here even though it is not beach front, all about the experience. I should have my video review up on Youtube the first week of May, I post a video review every month, you can find them here – Suites & Lobbies Youtube

I haven’t stayed at the Trump International Waikiki but I do plan on staying at the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko’Olina in the next couple of months, will let you know if its worth $900+ price tag. Will do a video as well.
